Helping Prevent Asthma or Allergies

Australia has one of the highest asthma and allergy populations in the world with around 1 in 10 Australians suffering from asthma. Our country has very unpredictable weather conditions, it is hot and humid during summer and cold and dry during winter with downpours of rain throughout the year. Australian weather events such as bush fires, heatwaves, dust storms and flooding are all climate conditions that can cause poor air quality in our life and essentially affect our health. Our homes are a place where we spend quite a large part of our day. This means it is essential to have a clean healthy home environment. One key element to a healthy area is excellent air quality and ventilation. When we do not place an importance on our living standards we run the risk of various health problems.

WHAT CAUSES ASTHMA & ALLERGIES?

Individuals frequently have a family history of asthma, eczema and hay fever. Investigations have shown that exposure to substances, particles and gases in the environment can increase the risk of developing this condition. Continuous contact with cigarette smoke (especially a baby or young child), pollution from bushfires, traffic, industrial factories may cause an increased risk to asthma or allergies.

However one of the most common influences of asthma and allergies is poor ventilation. A number of health issues arise from poor ventilation within any residential or commercial property. This lack of good air quality causes mould and dampness to appear around the house, and quite often in places unseen, this mould can then impact your health resulting in significant breathing and allergy problems.

Mould is a common organism, which grows in warm, humid and damp environments that give off spores. Inhaling fragments of mould or even spores can expand the airways in your throat, resulting in nasal congestion, wheezing, chest tightness and throat irritation. By neglecting mould and dampness in your home there is a possibility your lung function may deteriorate and therefore cause significant chronic health issues such as asthma.

HOW TO PREVENT ASTHMA AND ALLERGIES

Depending on where you live, your home may be more polluted than the air quality outside your home. The Asthma Foundation suggests the best way to make your home asthma and allergy-friendly are by addressing the core issues:

Ventilation
Heating & Cooling
Dust/dust mites
Pets

A ventilation home system is the most effective form of removing any triggers of asthma and allergies. Without a sufficient ventilation system, the air in your home is currently circulating toxins which will enhance asthma and allergies. A ventilation system will replace the toxic air with filtered air. It is recommended that your air should be filtered every four hours.

RITEFLO VENTILATION SYSTEMS

Riteflo ventilators are unique as they are the ONLY fans in the world with blades that rotate in both directions. Due to natural differences in internal and external air pressure and wind, our ventilation products expel stale air and introduce fresh air and natural light. This can offer almost continuous air movement of the desired space 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. In the past ventilation products were usually terracotta vents, wire mesh vents, electric and/or solar fans.

Call us today and we’d be happy to discuss whether a RiteFlo ventilation solution is right for you.
